How I got into photography

Do you know who Gets us well at times?
The algorithm.

Back in 2019, without any trace of interest around photography or content creation, I was watching videos on YouTube and somehow the algorithm decided that I would be interested in a certain Peter McKinnon and his videos. And it decided well. I clicked on that video and I was caught instantly. This was moment zero. Every day since then I tried to get the most interesting frames and angles using what I had closest to hand: my mid-range smartphone, a Samsung Galaxy A70.

I made the very first photo edits on my smartphone. First in Snapseed, but in time I switched to Lightroom Mobile(free version).

Many years have passed since then and over time I learned how to use to the maximum all that my smartphone offered in terms of photos and videos. I started using third-party applications to capture images in RAW format (exactly, FroKnowsPhoto got in my mind also). I started posting on my Instagram and obviously my friends started to notice my passion for photography. Soon they asked me to take photos for them at family events or for their businesses to help them with their social media. Obviously using only my smartphone. I was stubborn not to take the next step towards something more serious.

That was until one of my friends bought a mirrorless camera. He lent it to me a few times and every time I went back to my mid-range smartphone, I felt like I was regressing. I was stubborn for a while, but in the end I couldn't resist the temptation and one day I decided. It was time!

This is how I decided that it’s time to get serious about my photography, when I decided it’s time to buy my first mirrorless camera.

All photos displayed in this article were taken with my smartphone and edited using Lightroom or Snapseed. Go to my Instagram account @iamgabrieltudor and check more of the photos I take over the years with my smartphone.
